The
objective of the Overhead Squat
Test is to observe 3 things:
(1) Total kinetic-chain neuromuscular
efficiency,
(2) Integrated-functional strength,
and
(3) Dynamic flexibility.
Specific postural
deviantions and abnormal
movements will be
observed during controlled activity.
5 areas are observed: (1)FOOT/ANKLE
(2) KNEE (3) LUMBOPELVIC-HIP
COMPLEX (4) SHOULDER/ELBOW (5)
CERVICAL
Some examples include flat arches,
toes pointing outward, knocked
knees, bow-legged appearance,
hunching the shoulders, arching
the back, and the head dropping
forward.
These are just some examples
of postural
deviations and abnormal
movements.
If muscles are unable to act
appropriately to do a simple
series of squats, then retraining
the child's kinematics are crecial
for future function and coordination.
"Red Flags" will be pointed out
so that parents can watch the
child for progression of these
imbalances.
"Recommendations" will be given
to teh parents so that the child
can begin excercises and stretches
to correct these postural
deviations and abnormal
movements.
